BUEC Intership Blitz

Bayer United Engineering Consultants is excited to host our annual “BUEC Summer Internship Blitz”! This program aims to give you hands-on engineering experience in roadway design, drainage design, temporary traffic control, project management, and 3D modeling. We use a collaborative, team-focused approach and prioritize excellence in every project. As an intern, you’ll be an important part of our company. You won’t just observe, you will contribute, create, and take on meaningful work from day one.

YOUR INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE

As part of this internship, you will:

✔ Work one-on-one with Project Managers
✔ Receive hands on software training, including Open Roads Designer and ProjectWise
✔ Gain experience across multiple disciplines, including roadway, drainage, temporary traffic control, and 3D modeling
✔ Participate in marketing opportunities, including assisting with the preparation of presentations, proposal packages, and attending networking events.
✔ Attend project field visits before, during, and after construction as available
✔ Gain exposure to the life-cycle of a project, from advertisement to post design
✔ Receive in-office training through lunch and learns on various topics including design and project management
✔ Professional Experience: Valuable exposure to real-world engineering problems and solutions
✔ Networking: Opportunities to connect with professionals in the field, which can help in securing full-time positions after graduation
✔ Potential for Full-Time Employment: Many internships serve as a steppingstone to a full-time role in roadway engineering, especially if you’re performing well during your internship

This program is intended to be a two-way opportunity: you will get an inside look at the full design process, develop professional skills, and learn from our experienced team, while we get to know you as a potential future teammate.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

✔ Data Collection and Analysis: Assisting in gathering and analyzing traffic data, road conditions, and environmental factors.
✔ Supporting Engineers: Working alongside senior engineers to assist with calculations, design plans, and review plans for road projects.
✔ Site Visits: Visiting construction sites to observe progress, conduct safety audits, and ensure quality control.
✔ Report Writing: Documenting findings, preparing reports on road conditions or traffic flow, and creating project updates.
✔ Project Documentation: Managing and organizing technical documentation, drawings, and design updates.

SKILLS YOU MAY DEVELOP

✔ Technical Skills: Learning road design principles, using industry-standard software, and understanding engineering techniques.
✔ Problem-Solving: Finding practical solutions for roadway, drainage and traffic challenges.
✔ Communication: Interacting with engineers and contractors and learning how to communicate technical details effectively.
✔ Project Management: Gaining insights into managing timelines, budgets, and project expectations in large-scale civil projects

WHO CAN APPLY

Interns must be actively enrolled in a Civil Engineering program. Successful completion of their sophomore year and actively enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university is the ideal candidate. Active participation in your school ASCE or ASHE Chapters are a plus.
